Child Therapy

Hi there. I imagine you’re here because you have some growing concerns for your child. Perhaps those concerns are related to emotion regulation, ability to cope, socialization, focus and concentration, self-confidence, anxiety, sadness, academic success, or another notable behavioral change.

The decision to seek additional support for your child demonstrates the unwavering and unconditional you have for your child. It is an honor to be considered to walk alongside you and your child during this time.

Providing therapy to children is combination of fun, excitement, and fulfillment. Children are, by nature, curious, open, and free. I love to utilize these natural strengths of children, along with their own unique strengths, to support them in their journey.

My approach to working with children is relational and rooted in attachment. We are relational beings and the relationships we have influence how we feel about ourselves, others, and the world. Strong and secure relationships, including the therapeutic relationship, provide a space for development, growth, and change. Therefore, my initial objective in working with children is to establish a secure and trusting relationship. This will allow for increased attunement and understanding from me, and an increased sense of trust and safety for your child.

Once such a relationship is established, I incorporate art, play, mindfulness, and conversation to support your child in meeting their therapeutic goals. While there is serious work that occurs in therapy, I am also a believer that therapy can be fun!

I frequently work with children to achieve:

  • Improved emotional identification/understanding

  • Increased frustration tolerance

  • Increased confidence in coping with emotions

  • Increased ability to utilize effective coping skills

  • Decreased symptoms of anxiety

  • Decreased symptoms of depression

  • Increased ability to tolerate mistakes

  • Improved sleep

  • Improved body image

  • Increased independence and self-advocacy

  • Increased confidence and self-esteem

  • Increased satisfaction in relationships

  • Increased ability to focus and concentrate

  • Increased feelings of joy and fulfillment in life.

My work with children also involves working collaboratively with their parents. Working with parents is an incredibly important aspect of my work, as it directly supplements the therapeutic work done with children. There is a variety of ways I incorporate parents into the therapeutic work done with children such as, regular parent-therapist check-in meetings, parent check-ins at the end of the therapy sessions, or parent involvement during the therapy session. We will discuss what will work best for your child and their goals.
